Entering a New Market Is Mostly About Sequence

Published 2026-10-10

When a company enters a new market, the fatal mistakes are rarely “not enough capability.” They are “betting big before the cheap questions were asked” — leasing an office, hiring, stocking inventory before verifying something that could have been checked for little.

Ask the cheap questions first

Every assumption can be placed on two axes: what it costs to test, and how large the consequence is if it is wrong. The sequencing rule is simple — do the cheap and potentially fatal checks first.

  • Who pays for this? (A few real buyer conversations beat ten reports.)
  • What do they use today, and what is the switching cost?
  • Is there a single compliance or procurement rule that breaks the whole model?

Turn uncertainty into a price list

Do not say “the market is uncertain.” Say: we do not know these three things, and finding out costs this much time and money and depends on these parties. With that list, whether and when to enter becomes arithmetic.

We do not sell guaranteed access. We sell the discipline of asking the right questions in the right order — before you bet big.
