How to Judge a Partner You Cannot See

Published 2026-10-07

The most expensive lesson in cross-border matching is usually not technology — it is who the other party actually is, and whether they can sign. Both sides work across time zones and languages on the strength of a polished introduction, and discover the problem only at signature.

Answer three things before an introduction

  • Identity. What is the registered entity? Is the person you are dealing with able to sign, or just someone who can pass a message?
  • Capacity. For everything the cooperation model assumes the partner can do — delivery, funding, licences — have they actually done it?
  • Relationship. What is the referrer’s relationship to them, and do they profit from the deal? That decides how neutral the information really is.

How we reduce the risk

We only introduce partners we have qualified, and we state our relationship with each. Model, scope, fees, data boundaries, and the contracting entity are agreed in writing before work begins.

Turning “a partner you cannot see” into “a counterparty you can verify” is itself a deliverable — and that is exactly what Strategic Partnerships is for.
